Polyethylene

Manufactured in wide rolls, polyethylene liners come in varying thickness ( and a variety of surface finishes, from smooth to heavily textured) ranging from 20 to 100 mil (0.5 to 2.5 mm), as required by engineering design requirements.

HDPE (High Density Polyethylene)
The most chemically resistant member of the polyethylene family on account of its dense configuration (>0.94 g/cm3), HDPE is extensively used for most containment structures. Less flexible than its LLDPE counterpart, but offers great elongation properties allowing up to 12% deformation at its yield point.

LLDPE (Linear Low Density Polyethylene)
A lower density polymer (<0.939 g/cm3) yielding increased material flexibility, LLDPE is mainly used where large settlements are anticipated from long term consolidation such as landfill covers.

PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride)

Solmax manufactures preassembled panels (thicknesses are ranging from 0.25 mm to 1.5 mm) using state-of-the-art dielectric process and infrared technology capable of covering surface areas of up to 4500 m² per panel.

Fish grade PVC
When aquatic life is desired for applications such as architectural and horticultural ponds, specially formulated Fish-Grade Polyvinyl Chloride liners are also available.

Potable grade PVC
PVC also comes in a potable grade enabling its use for potable water containment as per the National Sanitation Foundation Standard 61 “Drinking Water System Components”. Stored water in contact with potable grade PVC is thus safe for human consumption.

Company Information

Solmax Experience

Solmax International Inc. is a corporation exclusively dedicated to the manufacturing of polyethylene geomembranes (HDPE, LLDPE) and the preassembly of oversized panels made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

For more than 20 years, Solmax has been recognized as one of the leading experts in the geomembrane industry. Our expertise benefits companies seeking the highest degree of imperviousness, in an effort to minimize the impact of their development activities on the environment.

By working with your engineering consulting firm, we are prepared to help you validate some of you choices, compare our experience or make recommendations which will enable you to define the key parameters of your project.

Since 1997, over 100 000 MT of Solmax polyethylene geomembranes have been used in thousands of projects around the world (~70 Million m² of 1.5 mm)

Since 1983, Solmax field technicians have successfully installed well over 30 000 MT of polyethylene geomembranes under the most stringent industry standards (20~ Million m² of 1.5mm)

Solmax's Specialized Geomembranes
They are made out of a PVC compound containing plasticizers based of ethylene and elvaloy (EIA), reinforced with a polyester screen for enhanced mechanical properties.

The main advantages of the products in comparison with other geomembranes such as PP, HDPE, LLDPE…, are connected to the fact they can be used for long exposure to:

1. High temperatures (over 70 degrees Celsius)
2. Hydrocarbons (primary containment and secondary containment)
3. UV rays in applications requiring high mechanical properties (floating covers, bladders…)

It is also appropriate when it is requested to contain potential leakage of secondary containment applications for a period of over one month.

Solmax considerably reduces its water consumption
...simply by modifying its Beringer oven system
In order to avoid the infiltration of non-desirable matter in the geomembrane during the fabrication process, filters are installed at the exit of the extruder. The Beringer oven is a system that is responsible for cleaning and removing the resin residues that build up in the filters...more
